Will Campbell Nfl Joint Practice Patriots Vikings

Foxborough, MA – The New England Patriots’ rookie offensive tackle Will Campbell faced a challenging day at joint practice on Thursday, struggling against Minnesota Vikings Pro Bowl linebacker Jonathan Greenard.

During the competitive sessions, Campbell allowed two sacks and a pressure, possibly even causing a false start. This was a part of Campbell’s ongoing adjustment as a first-year player in the NFL after being selected fourth overall in the 2025 NFL draft.

Greenard acknowledged the difficulties of being a rookie left tackle but remains optimistic about Campbell’s future. “He’s gonna be a good tackle,” said Greenard. “It’s a matter of just getting a feel, learning how to block in this league.”

The Patriots expected Campbell to require time to develop, but they also hope he can quickly adapt, especially since he will protect second-year quarterback Drake Maye‘s blindside. Small mistakes during practice are manageable, but they could lead to serious consequences in real games.

As the Patriots prepare for their upcoming season, they face formidable opponents, including Pro Bowl edge defenders Maxx Crosby and T.J. Watt, which adds to the urgency for Campbell to improve.

In the same practice, head coach Mike Vrabel, celebrating his 50th birthday, got involved in breaking up a scuffle, landing at the bottom of the pile for the second time this training camp. “There’s one answer, it’s carrot cake,” Vrabel said when asked about his birthday treat.

The Patriots also had other notable performances. Quarterback Drake Maye showed promise, connecting with receiver Kayshon Boutte for a deep touchdown during drills, while the team also managed to fill gaps left by absences in their lineup due to injuries.

With a preseason game against the Vikings set for Saturday at 1 p.m. ET at U.S. Bank Stadium, the team looks to assess its roster further, as decisions loom regarding player placements and preparations for the upcoming season.
