Peru Expels Venezuelan National Accused of Criminal Activities
In a decisive move, Peruvian authorities have expelled Ángel Ramón García Hernández, a Venezuelan national accused of being part of a criminal organization and responsible for the murder of five individuals in the metropolitan region of Lampa. The expulsion took place amidst cross-border law enforcement cooperation between Peru and Chile.
García, who is 33 years old and known by the alias ‘Barbas,’ was apprehended on Wednesday, October 16. His capture followed the issue of a Red Notice by Interpol Chile, which flagged him for several crimes committed in the neighboring country. General Marco Antonio Conde, Director of Criminal Investigation in Peru, highlighted that the deportation was executed in compliance with existing Migration Law and with coordination from the Chilean Police.
“The Homicide Investigation Division works closely with foreign law enforcement, in this case, the Chilean Police,” explained General Conde. “Our officers succeeded in capturing this individual in northern Lima and consequently, today he is being expelled from our country. He will first be transferred to Tacna and subsequently handed over to the Chilean Police,” he detailed.
García has been residing illegally in Peru since 2018, living in the Los Olivos district’s Huandoy area, where he was employed as a barber. The Directorate of Criminal Investigation of the Peruvian Police indicated that, although García entered the country legally, he is among those who, avoiding legal channels, exit and re-enter Peru to commit crimes abroad.
In response to García’s arrest, the President of Peru expressed her hopes that the Public Ministry would retain the detainee, who was actively sought by Interpol. She noted the success of recent police operations conducted under the state of emergency, which have yielded significant results in combatting organized crime.
García is accused by Chilean authorities of being involved in a shooting incident that resulted in five deaths. Peru’s National Police carried out his expulsion after identifying him as a member of the Tren de Aragua, a notorious criminal group operating in the region.
