Philadelphia Flyers Search for First Win Against Panthers
Philadelphia, PA – Rick Tocchet’s Philadelphia Flyers (0-1-1) will strive for their first victory of the 2025-26 NHL season on Monday night against the Florida Panthers. The match marks the Flyers’ home opener and the first game in a sequence of nine home games out of their next ten.
Last Thursday, the Flyers fell to the Panthers 2-1 in a hard-fought game where Noah Cates scored Philadelphia’s only goal. The Panthers secured victory thanks to a winner by veteran Brad Marchand in the third period, while goaltender Dan Vladar took a tough loss, despite making 32 saves.
The Flyers have several key points to focus on for Monday’s match. First, they will honor Flyers legend Bernie Parent by introducing memorial patches on their uniforms, as well as adorning the area behind each net with Parent’s famous No. 1. “Win or lose, it’s a beautiful thing,” Parent might say, and a win against last year’s champions would be a fitting tribute.
Additionally, Swedish defenseman Helge Andrae returns to the Flyers lineup as Cam York remains sidelined with injury. Andrae demonstrated impressive skills in his last game with the AHL’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms and aims to continue that performance at the NHL level.
Winger Owen Tippett, known for his streaky scoring ability, hopes to capitalize on his previous power play goal. Tippett has additional motivation as a former Panther when facing off against his old team.
One critical area of improvement for the Flyers is discipline, as they gave away five minor penalties in the opener against Florida. Despite successfully killing off eight of nine penalties thus far, limiting penalties will preserve player stamina and flow during the game.
