Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker Eagles Chant

PHILADELPHIA – Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker faced a lighthearted moment of embarrassment Sunday when she misspelled “Eagles” during a popular team chant at a press conference about winter storm preparations. The gaffe occurred as Parker and city officials gathered to discuss safety measures ahead of the Eagles-Rams playoff game.

“Listen, we gotta do this,” Parker, a first-term Democrat, said before leading the crowd in the chant. Wearing a kelly green beanie and scarf, she enthusiastically spelled out, “E-L-G-S-E-S, Eagles!” Some in the crowd corrected the spelling, chanting the proper version: “E-A-G-L-E-S.”

The mayor had earlier declared travel to the Jan. 19 playoff game “essential” and urged fans to exercise caution. The press conference took place outdoors in cold, wet conditions as the city prepared for an incoming winter storm.

Parker addressed the mishap with humor during an unrelated event in Kensington on Tuesday. “We don’t promise perfection, I’m so happy that I never have, especially after I couldn’t spell Eagles right,” she said, eliciting laughter from the audience. The moment has since gone viral on social media and even inspired a T-shirt.

Despite the flub, Parker’s enthusiasm for the team remains undiminished. “Go Birds!” she exclaimed after the chant, stepping away from the podium. The incident has sparked a mix of amusement and good-natured ribbing from Eagles fans, who are known for their passionate support of the team.

As the Eagles prepare for their next game against a division rival, all eyes will be on Parker to see if she gets a chance at redemption with a proper Eagles chant.
