Town Hall Pinellas Residents Anna Paulina Luna

PINELLAS PARK, Florida — Frustrated by a lack of response, Pinellas residents are hosting their own town hall meeting on Thursday evening without U.S. Rep. Anna Paulina Luna. Organizers say they have made multiple attempts to gather with Luna since March, but their requests for a town hall have been denied.

Cynthia Lippert, an organizer with the group Indivisible Florida 13, expressed the residents’ disappointment. “We depend on the voters and constituents having a chance to speak to their representative and have a voice taken to Washington D.C., and that’s not happening,” Lippert said. “That’s gone.”

The People’s Town Hall is scheduled for 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Pinellas Park First United Methodist Church. Attendees plan to voice various concerns, especially issues affecting the area’s senior population, such as Social Security and Medicaid.

“We have a serious situation being a peninsula surrounded by water,” Lippert added. “Priorities like putting President Trump on Mount Rushmore are not our priorities.”

Residents are keen to discuss pressing matters like potential cuts to Social Security and Medicare, which could severely impact many in the community. “We want our message recorded and sent to Congresswoman Luna,” she said.

As of now, Anna Paulina Luna has not responded to requests for comment regarding the town hall meeting.
