Today, thousands of eager Plymouth families await the news of their children’s primary school placements for the upcoming academic year, with the school admissions team diligently finalizing the allocations.

Notifications confirming the school placements for September 2024 have been dispatched via email, giving parents a week to respond and secure the offered spots for their children.

The data reveals that this year, 98.78 per cent of city children, amounting to 2,357 individuals, successfully secured a place in one of their top three preferred schools, indicating a high satisfaction rate among families.

Only a small fraction, 1.22 per cent (29 children), did not receive any of their chosen schools, leading to their allocation to the nearest school with available seats.

Compared to the previous year, where 2,574 applications were processed, this year saw a slightly lower number of applications at 2,386, reflecting a consistent demand for primary school placements in Plymouth.

It is essential for parents to note that children who were not placed in their preferred school will automatically be added to a waiting list for that institution, enabling them to be reconsidered should vacancies arise before the school year commences.

For parents who opt out of the waiting list, a written notification to the school admissions team is mandatory to facilitate the necessary adjustments.

The school admissions team can be contacted at 01752 307469 or via email for any queries or clarifications regarding the admissions process.

Additional information on admissions guidelines and appeals procedures can be accessed by visiting the dedicated section on the council’s website.
