Pokémon TCG Announces Journey Together Expansion for 2025

The Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) has unveiled its next major expansion, Journey Together, set to release in March 2025. The announcement comes just weeks before the launch of the current Prismatic Evolutions set, continuing the franchise’s tradition of keeping fans eagerly anticipating new content. Journey Together will feature a mix of familiar mechanics and fresh innovations, including the return of trainer-specific Pokémon cards.

Journey Together will debut in the U.S. on March 28, 2025, with pre-release events starting on March 15. The set is partially based on the Japanese Battle Partners expansion, which launches in January 2025. This staggered release schedule allows international players to get a sneak peek at upcoming cards through the Japanese version.

The expansion’s standout feature is the inclusion of ‘Owner’s Cards,’ which showcase Pokémon trained by iconic characters from the Pokémon universe. Confirmed cards include Iono‘s Bellibolt ex, Lillie‘s Clefairy ex, and Hop‘s Zacian ex. These cards add a narrative element to gameplay, allowing fans to build decks around their favorite trainers and their signature Pokémon.

In addition to trainer-specific cards, Journey Together will also include regular Pokémon cards, such as Reshiram, Zoroark, and Mimikyu. This blend of new and returning mechanics aims to appeal to both competitive players and collectors. The set marks the 10th expansion in the current Scarlet & Violet era, which has seen an extended lifespan due to delays in the release of new mainline Pokémon games.

Owner’s Pokémon have been a part of the TCG since their debut in the Gym Heroes set in 2000. Over the years, these cards have evolved to include more intricate designs and gameplay mechanics. Journey Together continues this tradition by introducing new abilities and attacks tailored to each trainer’s Pokémon, offering fresh strategies for competitive play.
