Police Pursuit in Myrtle Beach Leads to Arrest of Four Suspects

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Four people were arrested early Thursday after a dramatic police pursuit involving shots fired in Myrtle Beach, according to the Myrtle Beach Police Department (MBPD).
The incident began around 8:15 a.m. when officers observed a suspicious vehicle near the Twilight Surf Motel. When officers attempted to pull over the SUV, the occupants, who were wearing masks, fled the scene and reportedly fired at the police.
Police Chief Amy Prock stated that the chase progressed north on Highway 17 Bypass and ended when the vehicle crashed near 67th Avenue. All four individuals inside the SUV were then taken into custody without further incident. Their identities have not yet been disclosed.
During the pursuit, authorities noted that witnesses observed shots being fired. Fortunately, no officers or bystanders were injured in the shooting. The Horry County Police Department joined MBPD at some point in the chase, according to public safety officials.
Randolph Angotti, spokesperson for MBPD, revealed that the incident sparked concern among local residents. Eyewitness accounts described one suspect hanging out of the vehicle window with a firearm.
Haley Wentz, a teacher at Coastal High School located nearby, reported that her students were participating in a field day when the scene unfolded. “It happened in five, ten seconds. There was a car and a million cops following,” she said, recalling the panic as students were instructed to drop to the ground for safety.
The police confirmed there is no threat to the community following the arrest. The investigation into the incident continues, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Myrtle Beach Police Department at 843-918-1382.
