Armed Bank Robbery Chase Concord San Jose

SAN JOSE, Calif. — A police pursuit that began with an armed bank robbery in Concord ended violently Monday morning when officers shot and injured one of two suspects after a 50-mile chase through the Bay Area.

The incident unfolded shortly before 10 a.m. when two suspects entered a credit union in Concord and allegedly held employees at gunpoint before fleeing the scene in a stolen vehicle, according to the Concord Police Department. Officers quickly located the vehicle and initiated a pursuit.

As the chase continued down Interstate 680 into San Jose, the suspect’s vehicle became disabled in Sunol. In a desperate move, the suspects carjacked two additional vehicles at gunpoint and proceeded into San Jose in one of the stolen cars.

The pursuit culminated in the 900 block of Timothy Drive, where the stolen vehicle became immobile. At this point, police reported that at least one officer opened fire, striking one of the robbery suspects. The exact circumstances leading to the shooting remain under investigation.

“Concord officers called for our assistance as the pursuit entered our jurisdiction,” said San Jose Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Jorge Garibay during a news conference. “Those arriving on scene quickly learned that shots had been exchanged.”

The injured suspect was promptly transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The second suspect, who attempted to evade arrest, was apprehended by authorities shortly after the vehicle crash.

No officers were reported injured during the incident, which has led to heightened security measures and road closures in the vicinity. The shooting occurred around 11:40 a.m. local time, leading to an immediate response from San Jose police.

Authorities stated that the Concord Police Department is actively investigating the armed robbery, the carjackings, and the police pursuit, while San Jose police are focusing on the officer-involved shooting as per their established protocols.
