Police Shoot Wife of Weezer Bassist in Attempted Murder Arrest

LOS ANGELES, CA — Jillian Shriner, the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, was shot by police and subsequently arrested for attempted murder on Tuesday afternoon, April 8.
The Los Angeles Police Department responded to a backup request at around 3:25 p.m. PT to locate three suspects involved in a hit-and-run incident. As officers searched the residential Eagle Rock neighborhood, they encountered Jillian, 51, outside her home armed with a handgun, according to an LAPD press release.
Officers instructed Shriner to drop her weapon “numerous times,” but she allegedly refused and pointed the gun at them. In response, police opened fire, striking her in the shoulder. Following the shooting, she retreated into her residence but later emerged and was taken into custody.
Jillian was initially transported to a local hospital for treatment of what was reported as a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Officers recovered a 9-millimeter handgun from her home.
Subsequent investigations revealed that Jillian was not involved in the earlier hit-and-run incident. Fortunately, no officers or civilians were injured during the exchange of gunfire. The LAPD confirmed that Shriner was booked for attempted murder shortly after her medical treatment.
The Post reached out for comments from representatives of Weezer, Jillian, and the LAPD, but did not receive immediate responses.
This incident unfolded as law enforcement pursued suspects linked to the three-car crash that prompted the initial manhunt. Eyewitness Alana Altmeyer recounted seeing one suspect fleeing the scene.
“I saw a gentleman walking on the shoulder,” Altmeyer told reporters. “My brother and I assumed he was leaving the scene of an accident.”
Despite appearing injured, the suspect allegedly attempted to evade capture by jumping over the side of the freeway.
“I chased him down the side of the freeway, across the freeway, over a couple of fences,” said her brother, Guy Binn. “I got his bag and his sweater, but I couldn’t keep up with him.”
The situation remains under investigation. This is a developing story.
