Eagle Rock Police Shooting Hit And Run

EAGLE ROCK, Calif. — A suspected driver is in custody following a hit-and-run incident on the 134 Freeway that initiated a manhunt and culminated in a police shooting on Tuesday afternoon. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the crash occurred around 3 p.m. near Figueroa Street, injuring one person and prompting a search for three suspects who fled the scene.

A total of three vehicles were involved in the crash, which left one individual with moderate injuries. The CHP called in the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) as authorities scoured the area by ground and air, searching for the suspects.

Subsequently, LAPD officers arrived at the 1200 block of Eagle Vista Drive where they encountered a woman armed with a firearm in her backyard. The woman, later identified as Jillian Shriner, the wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, reportedly ignored multiple commands to drop her weapon, resulting in officers opening fire. She was transported to a medical facility for treatment of her injuries.

According to witnesses, Shriner had fired her weapon after one of the suspected hit-and-run individuals entered her home. Eyewitness video captured two women, including Shriner, emerging from the residence with their hands raised shortly before 5 p.m. They were subsequently detained by police on the street.

The suspected driver involved in the hit-and-run was apprehended around 4:20 p.m. after being discovered in the backyard of a nearby home, reportedly stripped down to his underwear. CHP spokesperson Daniel Keene noted that the man was attempting to hide by engaging in peculiar behavior, including jumping into a pool and watering plants.

The unidentified male suspect was booked for felony hit-and-run. The three-vehicle collision resulted in significant traffic snarls, with several eastbound lanes of the 134 Freeway closed during the Tuesday afternoon and evening rush hours; all lanes were reopened by 9 p.m.
