Pontypool-based Pro Steel Engineering Celebrates Award for Principality Stadium Project
The Pontypool-based firm Pro Steel Engineering has expressed great enthusiasm for being part of the collaborative team that received the prestigious Institute of Civil Engineers Wales Chairman’s Award for 2024. The accolade recognizes individuals or projects that demonstrate exceptional skill and expertise or have made significant contributions to the civil engineering profession.
The 2024 award was given to the Principality Stadium Roof Walk Experience located in Cardiff, which is a project now known as ‘Scale the Stadium’. This project was executed in collaboration with the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU), Wire & Sky, Crouch Waterfall, Evans Electrical, and Pro Steel Engineering.
Richard Selby, the co-owner and director of Pro Steel Engineering, remarked, “As a collective, we worked extremely well together, and this recognition is testament to that.” He extended the acknowledgment to all individuals who labored diligently both in the Pontypool factory and onsite. “We loved seeing this project come to life and hope everyone enjoys the thrills it provides to consumers,” added Selby.
Selby further explained the company’s role in the project, which included the development of structural engineering designs and calculations, followed by the integration into manufacturing drawings. The products were then galvanized and manufactured at the Pontypool facility. The entire process spanned over a year, meeting deadlines to ensure the promised opening. According to Selby, the team added more than 180 tonnes of steel to the existing stadium structure in Cardiff, which was able to accommodate the enhancements easily.
