K-pop Star JENNIE Unveils Dreamy Visuals in ‘Handlebars’ Video

LOS ANGELES, CA — K-pop superstar JENNIE debuted her new music video for the track “Handlebars” on March 10, showcasing a visually stunning and dreamy landscape that perfectly complements her solo sound. The video, directed by BRTHR, known for their work with artists like Charli XCX and The Weeknd, combines elements of fantasy and opulence, encapsulating the ethereal vibe of the song.
The mid-tempo R&B track opens with JENNIE reflecting on her tendency to fall in love quickly. In the chorus, she sings, “I trip and fall in love/ Just like a Tuesday drunk/ I always go all in, all in, all in/ Over the handlebars/ Hitting the ground so hard.” Dressed in a glittery top over a metallic mini dress, JENNIE strolls through a rain-soaked, neon-drenched environment.
Throughout the video, JENNIE interacts with a heart-shaped spider’s web, often depicted lying on her back, embodying both vulnerability and strength. A minute into the visual, pop sensation Dua Lipa enters the scene from another dimension, contributing to the dynamic duo’s harmonious blending of vocals. Lipa sings, “I wonder what you’re doing for tonight and forever/ I could be the rest of your life or whatever/ My lips and your lips, we could press them together,” complementing JENNIE’s singing seamlessly.
The two artists collaborate on the soothing chorus, repeating the line about falling in love. They are depicted back-to-back, lounging in the oversized spider web amidst a backdrop of glitchy monitors and pulsating lights, enhancing the futuristic aesthetics of the video.
As the visual progresses, a transformation occurs, depicting the women sharing a deeper connection. Streams of shiny water flow from each of their eyes, merging into a dazzling disco ball heart, symbolizing their entwined emotions. This artistic representation of harmony and unity is a highlight in the video.
“Handlebars” is featured on JENNIE’s recently released debut solo album, “Ruby,” which consists of 15 tracks and includes collaborations with popular artists such as Childish Gambino, Dominic Fike, Doechii, FKJ, and Kali Uchis. The album signifies a substantial milestone in JENNIE’s transition from a member of BLACKPINK to a solo artist.
