Portuguese Footballer Nunes Arrested in Madrid Over Alleged Phone Theft
Spanish authorities have reported the arrest of a well-known Portuguese footballer last month under allegations of stealing a mobile phone. The incident, as reported by El Mundo and confirmed by a police source to Reuters, involved the Manchester City midfielder.
Details provided by the Spanish newspaper and the police source indicate that the player, named as Nunes, allegedly forced a high-end phone from a 58-year-old man at a nightclub in Madrid. The altercation reportedly occurred after Nunes suspected the individual had taken unauthorized photographs of him while he was in the bathroom.
A police spokesperson in Madrid has verified that a Portuguese citizen was indeed arrested on September 8 at 5:30 am. The alleged incident took place at a night club in the downtown area of the city. The accused was subsequently detained for purportedly stealing a high-end phone value exceeding €300 (£250), thereby categorizing the case as robbery rather than theft.
After questioning at the police station, Nunes was released pending trial. There has been no immediate comment from a spokesperson representing the player concerning the allegations.
Nunes, who is originally from Brazil and 26 years of age, made the move to Premier League champions Manchester City from Wolverhampton Wanderers last season. Despite his participation in matches for the Portuguese national team during events in Germany in June and July, he did not receive a call-up for international duty in the previous month.
