Possible Mayweather-Pacquiao Rematch Discussed for 2026
MANILA, Philippines — Manny Pacquiao announced at a news conference Wednesday that a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. is a strong possibility for next year. “Right now we have a lot of negotiations about my next fight; there’s a possible rematch with Floyd Mayweather,” said Pacquiao.
The negotiations are ongoing, making it challenging for him to finalize plans for his next fight. Pacquiao, a world champion in eight divisions, was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in June. He returned to the ring in August at age 46, where he fought Mario Barrios to a majority draw.
Pacquiao’s professional record stands at 62-8-2 with 39 knockouts. He has sought out tough opponents throughout his career. After serving as a senator in the Philippines from 2016 to 2022, Pacquiao lost a presidential bid in 2022. He seeks to challenge Mayweather again, who he lost to in a highly publicized match in 2015.
“I’d love to have another fight, a rematch with Floyd Mayweather. So I hope that in the negotiations, we can understand each other and negotiate well,” he added.
Mayweather, now 48, is also planning busy year in 2026, including an exhibition with Mike Tyson. Talks about a potential rematch have surfaced, possibly set for April in Las Vegas, as confirmed by sources. This rematch would not be an exhibition, but instead an official boxing match.
Mayweather and Pacquiao first battled on May 2, 2015, at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Their previous encounter set records in pay-per-view sales and overall revenue within combat sports.
While many fans express excitement over a potential rematch, Pacquiao’s upcoming focus will also be on his son Jimuel. Jimuel, 24, is set to make his professional debut against Brendan Lally on Nov. 29 in California. “I’m excited, but I’m worried about my son,” Pacquiao said. “He started late … but that is his passion, so I will support him.”
