Power Outage Affects Thousands in Brooklyn Following Truck Accident
In Brooklyn, New York, a significant power outage occurred on Thursday morning, leaving thousands of residents in the Flatbush and East Flatbush neighborhoods without electricity. The utility company Con Edison confirmed that the incident took place at approximately 7:45 a.m. due to a truck carrying dumpsters that inadvertently brought down overhead power lines in an industrial area near the intersection of Glenwood Road and Troy Avenue.
The outage affected 9,735 customers, disrupting daily activities and causing street lights to go dark. The power failure led to at least one situation where individuals had to be rescued from a stalled elevator. It also created challenges for local businesses, with one owner recounting, “A loud explosion, and nobody had power in the neighborhood. Trying to make it work the best we could.”
Con Edison worked swiftly to address the situation, and service was fully restored by 11 a.m. that same morning. The utility company services New York City‘s five boroughs, with the exception of the Rockaways, and also extends its services to Westchester County.
Eyewitness reports and aerial footage from news helicopters showed crews actively making repairs at the impacted site to restore power. Public safety measures were implemented as teams worked to rectify the issue promptly.
