Boston Power Outage Traffic Signals Schools

BOSTON, Massachusetts — A widespread power outage struck Boston on Wednesday afternoon, impacting traffic signals, city schools, and police precincts. As of 3:30 p.m., over 24,000 customers were reported without power.

The outage affected various neighborhoods, including the Columbia Point area near the JFK Library, Dorchester, and the Back Bay. Eversource, the utility provider, has indicated that the outage stems from a problem at one of its substations located in Andrews Square, which services South Boston and the South End.

In a statement released at 3:30 p.m., Eversource announced, “We expect to restore power to all our customers within the next 30 minutes.” The company is working diligently to resolve the issue safely.

Boston police are experiencing difficulties due to the outage, particularly in districts B2, D11, and C4. Additionally, some Boston Public Schools reported power loss in a few of their buildings, which affected their helpline and transportation hotline.

Massport reported that Logan Airport has remained unaffected by the outage, ensuring normal airport operations. Local news stations, including WCVB, have dispatched crews to cover the developing story and provide updates to the public as new information emerges.
