Tri State Severe Weather Power Outages

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) — Severe weather sweeping across the Tri-State has led to significant power outages early Saturday morning. As of 3:30 a.m. CDT, over 5,000 customers in Indiana‘s CenterPoint Energy service area are without power, primarily impacting southern Illinois.

The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for multiple counties across Illinois, Indiana, and Kentucky, now in effect until 6 a.m. CDT. This watch includes four counties in southern Illinois—Gallatin, Hardin, Massac, and Pope—and six counties in southwest Indiana—Posey, Gibson, Pike, Spencer, Vanderburgh, and Warrick. In Kentucky, a total of 22 counties are under the watch, including Caldwell, Christian, and McCracken, among others. Additionally, two counties in southeast Missouri, Mississippi and New Madrid, are included.

Residents in Quincy, Illinois, reported over 3,000 power outages around 7:38 p.m., along with stoplights down and a fallen tree blocking a road. Near Carthage, around 600 individuals lost power, and there were reports of additional outages in rural areas between Sutter and West Point.

With gusty winds pushing through the area, conditions remain precarious. A wind advisory is active until 4 a.m. CDT, warning of south winds between 15 to 25 mph and gusts up to 50 mph. The strong winds could cause further power outages and make driving hazardous, particularly for high-profile vehicles.

Storm Team 44 is actively monitoring the situation, urging residents to stay safe and be prepared for potential additional outages as the storm progresses from west to east. Emergency crews are assessing damages and responding to service disruptions as they arise.

Local authorities ask that residents report any additional power outages and submit photos of storm damage as they are encountered. Updates will continue to be provided as more information becomes available.
