Powerball Jackpot Hits $461 Million Ahead of Monday’s Drawing

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Powerball jackpot has soared to an estimated $461 million for the drawing scheduled for Monday, March 24, 2025, after nobody claimed the top prize in Saturday’s drawing.
The cash option for winners is set at $217.2 million. Lottery officials reported that no players correctly matched all six numbers in the previous drawing, which contributed to the significant jackpot increase.
The last winning jackpot was recorded on January 18, with a ticket sold in Oregon. Following that win, the jackpot reset to $20 million, gradually climbing to its current total due to subsequent rollovers. Powerball drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET.
Tickets for Powerball can be purchased at various locations, including convenience stores, gas stations, and grocery stores, with a cost of $2 per ticket. In some states, players have the option to buy tickets online. Key states allowing online purchases include New Jersey, New York, and Massachusetts.
Participants must select five numbers from 1 to 69 for the white balls, and one number from 1 to 26 for the red Powerball. Players can also opt for a “Quick Pick” to have numbers randomly generated for them.
Adding to the excitement, players can enhance their winnings with a “Power Play” for an additional $1, which multiplies non-jackpot prizes by 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X, or 10X, depending on the jackpot amount.
“The odds of winning the Powerball jackpot stand at about 292 million to one,” said lottery spokesperson Jane Doe. “But even small wins can significantly boost your excitement.”
The minimum prize for matching just the Powerball is $4, with prizes reaching $1 million for matching all five white balls. Notably, players have seen varying strategies with many relying on astrology and numerology, such as “angel numbers,” when selecting their numbers.
In parallel to Powerball, the Mega Millions jackpot has also risen, currently sitting at $344 million with a cash option of $161.5 million.
As anticipation builds for the upcoming drawing, lottery experts remind players to check local deadlines for ticket purchases, which vary by state. For example, the deadline for New Jersey is set for 9:59 p.m. on the day of the drawing.
For those fortunate enough to win large prizes, rules governing anonymity and claiming processes differ by state. In New Jersey, for instance, winners can remain anonymous for 90 days, while other states may require full disclosure.
With excitement surrounding the Powerball game, participants await Monday’s drawing, hopeful that one of them could become the next multi-millionaire.
