Powerball Jackpot Surges, Awaiting New Lucky Winner
The Powerball jackpot has reached an estimated $388 million, with a cash option of $186.7 million, for the upcoming drawing scheduled on Monday night, according to lottery officials. This follows the last jackpot claim on August 19 by a single California ticket holder.
In related lottery news, the Mega Millions jackpot stands at $169 million. Monday’s Powerball numbers were 14, 33, 64, 67, and 18, with the Powerball 14 and a 2x Power Play multiplier. The next drawing is set for Wednesday, October 16.
Powerball drawings occur thrice weekly—every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. Eastern Time. Ticket sales close at different times: 10 p.m. in New York and Connecticut, and 9:45 p.m. in New Jersey.
Players choose five numbers from 1 to 69 and one Powerball number from 1 to 26. To secure the jackpot, all six numbers must match those drawn, with odds of winning the grand prize at 1 in 292.2 million. Each Powerball ticket costs $2.
The draw is broadcast live on the lottery’s website and local television stations may also air the event. Noteworthy recent jackpots include a record $2.04 billion won in California in November 2022, and a $1.765 billion jackpot claimed by another Californian in October 2023.
The upcoming Powerball jackpot for Wednesday night is projected to be worth $408 million, translating to a $196.3 million cash payout after taxes for the potential winner.
