President Tinubu Renames National Theatre to Honor Wole Soyinka on His 90th Birthday

Recipient of prestigious accolades including the Benson Medal, Academy of Achievement Golden Plate Award, Anisfield-Wolf Book Award, and the Europe Theatre Prize, Professor Soyinka exemplifies the highest standard of intellectual enlightenment.

The President hails Professor Soyinka as a living repository of history, knowledge, and courage, lauding his unwavering commitment to Nigeria‘s future through pro-democracy activism and anti-corruption efforts.

Amidst their shared past in the struggle for democracy post the annulled June 12, 1993 election, President Tinubu acknowledges the Nobel Laureate’s pivotal role in galvanizing global support through NALICON and NADECO.

In a gesture of profound recognition, the Federal Government announces the renaming of the National Theatre in Iganmu, Surulere, as The Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and the Creative Arts, in honor of Professor Soyinka’s lasting impact.
