U.s. Route 30 Ohio Semi Tanker Crash Propane Leak

A two-vehicle crash involving a semi-tractor trailer and a propane tanker on U.S. Route 30 in Mohican Township, Ohio, forced the closure of the highway in both directions Monday afternoon. The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSP) responded to the incident at approximately 12:22 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 30 and state Route 89.

The collision caused both vehicles to overturn, with the propane tanker leaking hazardous material, according to an OSP news release. The leak prompted evacuations of nearby businesses and residences as a precaution. Authorities closed the area around the intersection, including U.S. 30 between County Road 2175 and County Road 175, and state Route 89 between County Road 30A and County Road 2000.

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) established detours at U.S. 30 and U.S. Route 250, as well as U.S. 30 and state Route 60. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternate routes until further notice.

Both drivers involved in the crash were transported to University Hospital Ashland with non-life-threatening injuries. Emergency personnel from multiple agencies, including the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office, Jeromesville Fire & EMS, Hayesville Fire & EMS, ODOT, and the Ashland County Emergency Management Agency, are working at the scene to contain the propane leak and clear the roadway.

Updates on the situation will be provided once the area is deemed safe and reopened for travel. The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the OSP.
