Qantas and Perth Airport Announce $5 Billion Investment for New Terminal and Runway
Perth Airport and Qantas have sealed a monumental $5 billion deal that will revolutionize air travel in Western Australia. The ambitious project includes the construction of a cutting-edge new terminal and a parallel runway set to be operational by 2031.
The agreement, the largest private infrastructure investment in Perth to date, marks a significant milestone in the relationship between Qantas and Perth Airport. Once completed, the new facilities will position Western Australia as a key national and international aviation hub.
Qantas Group’s CEO, Vanessa Hudson, hailed the venture as the group’s most substantial airport investment to date, acknowledging the complexity of the negotiations that led to this landmark deal.
Under the plan, all Qantas and Jetstar services will be consolidated into the new terminal at the Airport Central precinct, a move that is expected to significantly boost passenger traffic to and from Perth by millions annually, creating up to 3000 employment opportunities during the construction phase.
The initiative also paves the way for Qantas to introduce new flight routes from Perth, with services to Auckland and Johannesburg slated to commence from mid-2025. The new facilities will not only enhance passenger experience but also contribute to the economic growth of the region.
The collaboration between Qantas and Perth Airport marks the conclusion of a protracted period of negotiations and litigation, signaling a new era of cooperation between the two entities. Premier Roger Cook commended both teams for their perseverance, emphasizing the transformative impact the project will have on Western Australia’s aviation sector.
