Rainy Weekend Ahead for Long Island with Cool Temperatures

LONG ISLAND, NY – This weekend, Long Island residents should prepare for rainy weather once again, as forecasts predict several bouts of light rain. The National Weather Service reported that Friday’s high temperature reached the mid to high 70s, with a low around 61.
Friday’s forecast indicated that temperatures will stay closer to normal, with highs between 75 and 80 degrees. Overnight, residents can expect showers and possible storms from 2 a.m. to 5 a.m. Saturday, with more rain likely through noon and additional showers after 2 p.m.
On Saturday, the high temperature is forecasted to be around 67 degrees, with an 80% chance of precipitation. The air quality across Long Island is predicted to be ‘moderate,’ which is the second level on a six-tier scale. This follows a week where air quality was deemed unhealthy for sensitive groups due to smoke from Canadian wildfires.
The U.S. Air Quality Index recommends those sensitive to fine particulates reduce outdoor activities. Sunday also has a chance for light rain, keeping the high temperature around 66 degrees. The weather for the upcoming week shows mostly cloudy conditions with a possibility of rain on Monday and Thursday.
This marks the eighth consecutive weekend with rain on Long Island, with showers expected to be mainly light. However, the forecast warns of brief periods of steady rain during the weekend’s early hours.
For those planning Father’s Day activities, clouds are expected to dominate the sky with a chance of stray showers early; temperatures will peak near 70. The afternoon and evening may bring drier conditions, making it the better half of the day.
