Texas Rangers Joc Pederson Hitting Baseball

CHICAGO, April 8, 2025 – Texas Rangers designated hitter Joc Pederson returns to the starting lineup for tonight’s game against the Chicago Cubs, after a brief absence. The veteran player was sidelined during Monday’s matchup against left-handed pitcher Justin Steele but is set to hit cleanup against right-hander Jameson Taillon.

Pederson has had a difficult start to the season, recording just a .107 batting average with no home runs or RBIs across 34 plate appearances. His struggles come at a critical time as the Rangers look to improve their performance.

The Rangers, who are currently in the midst of a three-game series with the Cubs, face a challenging weather forecast. Temperatures are expected to drop to below freezing during the game following earlier snow in Chicago. Despite the conditions, both teams are set to take the field at 6:40 PM EDT.

In addition to Pederson, outfielder Leody Taveras will also sit tonight as the team adjusts to a lefty pitcher on the mound for the Cubs. Texas’ lineup for the game includes Semien at second base, Seager at shortstop, Langford in left field, Garcia in right field, and Burger playing first base.

Following a loss to the Cincinnati Reds, where the Rangers managed only one run in a 1-0 victory, the team is eager to secure a series win. Rangers pitcher Nathan Eovaldi, who is slated to start tonight, has shown promise and hopes to capitalize on the Cubs’ pitching struggles.

“It’s crucial for us to get things back on track,” said Eovaldi. “Every game counts, and we’re focused on making a comeback tonight.”

The Rangers currently hold a 2-4 record for the season, needing to convert a few close losses into wins to avoid falling further behind in the standings. With upcoming division games on the horizon, the urgency amplifies to improve offensive performance and stabilize the pitching rotation.

As Pederson steps back into play, fans remain hopeful he can turn around his early season slump and contribute significantly to the team’s success moving forward.
