Rapper Tory Lanez Hospitalized After Stabbing at California Prison

Tehachapi, California — Rapper Tory Lanez was hospitalized on Monday morning after being attacked by a fellow inmate at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi. The assault occurred around 7:20 a.m., according to officials from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
A spokesperson for the prison said that staff immediately responded to the incident, activated 911, and provided medical assistance to Lanez, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson. He was subsequently transported to an outside medical facility for further treatment.
Reports from Lanez’s verified Instagram account indicate that he was stabbed 14 times, suffering wounds to his back, torso, and head. Notably, both of his lungs collapsed, requiring him to initially use a breathing apparatus, though he is now reportedly breathing on his own.
Despite his injuries, the Instagram post stated that Lanez is in good spirits and is thankful for the prayers and support he has received. Attorney Crystal Morgan, who represents him, confirmed the attack and stated that she has been unable to gather further details about his condition.
The prison’s Investigative Services Unit and the Kern County District Attorney’s Office have launched an investigation into the incident. Officials have not disclosed the identity of the attacker or details surrounding the motive behind the stabbing.
Lanez, 32, is currently serving a 10-year prison sentence for shooting fellow musician Megan Thee Stallion, born Megan Pete, in July 2020. During his trial, testimony revealed that Lanez fired gunshots at her feet after they had an argument in a vehicle, demanding she “dance” as he shot.
Lanez has consistently maintained his innocence, and his legal team is appealing the conviction. In December 2022, he was found guilty of three felony charges related to the shooting.
The case has been a point of division within the hip-hop community, with various artists weighing in on Lanez’s situation, and some expressing support for him during his legal struggles.
