Rebellion Unveils Highly Anticipated RPG Atomfall Set for 2025 Release

WINDSCALE, England — Rebellion, the developers behind the popular Sniper Elite series, have officially announced their upcoming game, Atomfall, set to launch on March 27, 2025. This new title is described as a single-player, open-world survival RPG, immersing players in a post-apocalyptic England following the infamous Windscale nuclear disaster of 1957.

Players will step into the shoes of an amnesiac protagonist navigating the perilous countryside of Windscale. The game will allow exploration of multiple interconnected large zones, reminiscent of the expansive maps from the Sniper Elite franchise, where players can scavenge, barter, and uncover the secrets behind the environmental ruins and societal fragments around them.

“Atomfall focuses solely on the player experience without multiplayer components,” said Jason Kingsley, Rebellion CEO. “We want to deliver an engaging narrative experience as you unravel the mystery of the quarantine enveloping the area.”

Distinctively, Atomfall offers a mixture of survival and role-playing elements. Players can consume food and water to regain health, but the game will not enforce such mechanics through demanding resource meters commonly found in survival games. Instead, players will monitor a traditional health bar and heart rate meter which influences stamina and sensory abilities.

The game’s storyline unfolds in an alternative timeline where the consequences of the Windscale disaster create a disturbing landscape filled with mutated beings and societal breakdowns. Players must navigate this treacherous terrain while interacting with diverse characters, including cults, government agents, and more.

An early gameplay preview revealed that while combat is a significant aspect of Atomfall, the game emphasizes player freedom. “You can approach situations in various ways,” Kingsley added. “Whether you choose to engage non-lethal routes or go on a rampage, the game is designed to adapt to your decisions.”

Atomfall has been under development for over seven years, evolving through multiple phases. It first gained attention during the Xbox Summer showcase in 2022 and has since attracted significant anticipation leading up to its release.

The game will be available on multiple platforms, including Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and PlayStation 5. Furthermore, it will be included in Xbox Game Pass at launch, a significant draw for subscribers eager to experience this new adventure.

In another interesting development, cross-save functionality will be available between Xbox platforms and Windows PC through the Xbox PC application, allowing seamless gameplay transition across devices.
