Recall Alert: Silk and Great Value Plant-Based Beverages Pulled from Shelves Due to Listeria Contamination
The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a nationwide recall for several plant-based beverages produced by Silk and Great Value due to possible listeria contamination.
The affected products, including almond milk, coconut milk, almond-coconut milk, and oat milk, were manufactured by Danone Canada. These beverages come in various sizes and best before dates, with specific UPCs provided by the CFIA.
According to food safety engineering experts at the University of British Columbia, listeria is a dangerous pathogen with a high mortality rate, especially for individuals with weakened immune systems.
In response to the recall, a spokesperson from Danone Canada stated that the contaminated products originated from a particular production line at a third-party manufacturer based in Ontario.
The investigation into the listeria contamination was initiated following reports of foodborne illnesses associated with the consumption of these plant-based beverages. The CFIA advises consumers to discard or return any recalled products and seek medical attention if they experience symptoms like vomiting, nausea, fever, and headache.
