Renowned Ghazal Singer Pankaj Udhas Passes Away at 72
The renowned ghazal and playback singer, Pankaj Udhas, passed away at the age of 72 at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. The news was confirmed by his daughter, Nayaab Udhas, who shared the heartbreaking news on social media.
Pankaj Udhas, known for his soulful renditions, had a prolific career in Bollywood, starting in the 1980s. He gained fame with albums like Aahat, Tarrannum, and Nayaab, and his performances at iconic venues like Royal Albert Hall.
Throughout his career, Pankaj Udhas delivered numerous hits, including ‘Chitthi aayi hai’, ‘Dil Se Dil Mila‘, ‘Aaj Phir Tumpe’, and ‘Jeeye To Jeeye Kaise’, captivating audiences with his melodious voice.
The veteran singer was honored with the prestigious Padma Shri award in 2006 for his contributions to music. He also received several other accolades, such as the K.L. Saigal Award and the MTV Immies Award, recognizing his talent and dedication to his craft.
Aside from his musical achievements, Pankaj Udhas was actively involved in philanthropic activities, supporting causes like cancer awareness through his album ‘Nabeel’, which was auctioned for charity.
Pankaj Udhas’ untimely demise has left a void in the music industry and among his fans worldwide. He is survived by his wife, Farida Udhas, daughters Nayaab and Reva Udhas, and brothers Manhar and Nirmal Udhas.
The funeral of the legendary singer will be held in Mumbai, where family, friends, and fans will bid a final farewell to the ghazal maestro who left an indelible mark on Indian music.
