Renowned Tech Mahindra Vice-Chairman Vineet Nayyar Passes Away at 85
Vineet Nayyar, the former Vice-Chairman of Tech Mahindra, has sadly passed away at the age of 85, leaving a profound impact on the Indian business community. Known for his exceptional leadership and vision, Nayyar’s journey was full of noteworthy achievements.
Starting his career as a district magistrate, Nayyar later founded the state-owned Gas Authority of India and eventually moved on to significant roles at the World Bank overseeing infrastructure and energy divisions.
He was instrumental in India’s IT sector, having served as Managing Director of HCL Corporation Limited, Vice Chairman of HCL Technologies Limited, and the founder & CEO of HCL Perot Systems.
Renamed Tech Mahindra, the company saw remarkable growth under Nayyar’s leadership, with annual revenues more than doubling in just a few years.
One of Nayyar’s most significant challenges was the acquisition of Satyam Computer Services, following one of India’s biggest financial scandals. This marked a pivotal moment in both Tech Mahindra and Satyam’s history.
Industry associations and colleagues, including Anand Mahindra, Chairman of the Mahindra Group, along with organizations like Nasscom, paid tribute to Nayyar’s invaluable contributions to the IT sector.
Former Tech Mahindra CEO CP Gurnani and current MD and CEO Mohit Joshi highlighted Nayyar’s legacy in shaping Tech Mahindra as a key player in the Indian IT services industry.
