Sackets Harbor Immigration Rally Protest

SACKETS HARBOR, New York — Residents of Sackets Harbor are preparing for a significant rally outside the home of Tom Homan, President Trump’s border czar, following an immigration sweep that resulted in the detainment of three local students.

The rally is scheduled for Saturday and could attract hundreds as community members and local Democrats demand the return of the students and their mother, who were taken during a federal operation last week.

According to local reports, federal agents executed a warrant at North Harbor Dairy Farm where they apprehended a suspect in a child pornography investigation. During this operation, seven individuals deemed illegal aliens were also detained for questioning. Among them were three students from Sackets Harbor Central School.

“It’s unbelievable. I would’ve never thought this in 25 years,” said resident David Powell, sharing his disbelief over the situation that has unfolded in their village.

Mayor Alex Morgia has declared a state of emergency to ensure safety during the protest, allowing for the mobilization of additional police resources. “We’ve been dealing with protest organizers directly and making sure they understand what we expect and what we need to have this go off without any issues,” he stated, emphasizing the village’s commitment to order.

In an interview with 7News, Homan acknowledged awareness of the upcoming rally, affirming, “They certainly have their First Amendment rights, and they can rally and protest all they want, but I’m not going to be bullied. I’m not going to be intimidated. We’re going to do our job.”

Local residents expressed their desire for the demonstration to remain peaceful. “It makes more of an impact if it’s peaceful and respectful,” said Alice Holman, another village resident.

Homan reassured the community that the mother and children are currently safe. He mentioned that after the criminal investigation concludes, it will be up to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents to determine whether the family can return to Sackets Harbor.

The rally signifies the growing tensions surrounding immigration policies and their impact on local communities, thrusting Sackets Harbor into the national spotlight as a focal point for advocacy and protest.
