Richard Gere Antonio Banderas Gypsy Musical Málaga

MÁLAGA, Spain — Hollywood actor Richard Gere and his wife, Alejandra Silva, recently enjoyed a whirlwind visit to Málaga, where they attended the closing performance of Antonio Banderas‘ musical Gypsy at the Teatro del Soho CaixaBank. The couple, who arrived on Thursday, January 9, 2025, were hosted by Banderas and his partner, Nicole Kimpel, during their stay.

Gere, known for iconic roles in Pretty Woman and An Officer and a Gentleman, praised the production and its cast, particularly lead actress Marta Ribera. “Although I don’t understand everything in Spanish, I loved the show,” Gere joked after the performance. The musical, which explores themes of ambition and success, concluded its Málaga run with all tickets sold out and will move to Madrid’s Teatro Apolo on February 7.

Following the show, the group dined at Doña Inés, a fusion cuisine restaurant located in the Room Mate Valeria Hotel. The menu featured Argentine-inspired dishes such as chorizo criollo, empanadas, and grilled wagyu T-bone, alongside desserts like rice pudding and cheesecake. Banderas, a native of Málaga, owns the restaurant through his Tercer Acto group.

Gere and Silva stayed at the luxurious Gran Hotel Miramar, located near La Malagueta Beach, before departing early Friday morning. The visit highlighted the long-standing friendship between Gere and Banderas, who first met decades ago. “It’s an honor to have him at the Teatro del Soho CaixaBank!” the production team shared on social media, alongside a photo of the Gere couple with the cast.

Banderas, who directed and produced the Spanish adaptation of Gypsy, emphasized the musical’s exploration of the “pathology of success.” The production features a 26-member orchestra and a cast of 30, bringing to life the script by Arthur Laurents, music by Jule Styne, and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim.
