Richmond Water Plant Pump Failure Prompts Boil Water Advisory
RICHMOND, Va. — A power outage at the Richmond Water Plant early Monday morning caused a critical pump failure, leading to widespread water pressure issues and prompting city officials to prepare a boil water advisory. The incident has left some residents with low or no water service, while officials scramble to address the problem.
The pump failure occurred at approximately 6:00 a.m. on January 6, 2025, after a power outage disrupted operations at the facility. City officials confirmed that the plant is currently relying on a land reservoir in the 5th council district, but warned that the reservoir’s supply is dwindling rapidly.
