Rigby High School Breaks Ground on New Field House

RIGBY, Idaho — Rigby High School celebrated a significant milestone on Thursday, May 15, as officials broke ground for a new field house. This facility aims to provide students and the community a place to engage in sports year-round, addressing challenges posed by Idaho’s long winters.
“For baseball, we usually don’t get to go on a field or take ground balls anywhere other than a basketball court until the end of March. Now, we’re able to do that earlier and prepare for our season sooner,” said Sam Phillips, head baseball coach at Rigby High School. The new field house will allow athletes to practice and hone their skills regardless of weather conditions.
Superintendent Chad Martin of Jefferson School District 251 emphasized the importance of the facility for community well-being, stating, “It’s a place for kids to be active and for the community to engage in physical activities. Anytime kids are involved in something, it’s beneficial. So it’s an investment in the community as well.”
The construction of the field house is made possible by a generous donation from Broulim’s. Superintendent Martin expressed gratitude for their support, highlighting the partnership’s role in enhancing local sports facilities.
The project will not only benefit students but also provide the community with a dedicated space for various activities year-round.
