Uk Motorway Road Closures

Drivers in the UK should brace themselves for another week of travel disruptions as roadworks continue to impact several major A-roads and motorways. Commencing on the night of Monday, October 7, the M2 will be closed between Junction 5, which serves Stockbury, and Junction 4, until 6 a.m. the following morning to facilitate necessary carriageway works during the night.

Throughout the week, road users can also expect various other closures along the M25 and A282, underscoring the extent of the ongoing roadworks. Particularly over the coming weekend, there will be a notable closure of the A282 and the M25 southbound near the Dartford Crossing due to bridge works. Starting from 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 12, until 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 13, the A282’s segment between Junctions 1 and 2 of the M25 will be inaccessible to accommodate these essential works.

Further maintenance activities involve the closure of the A256 in Kent, specifically between Whitfield and the Duke of York Roundabout, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. on each weeknight. Roadworks also affect sections of the A20 and A21 at different times this week. In anticipation of these closures, National Highways has planned diversions and advised motorists to allow for additional travel time.

Commenting on the maintenance, a spokesperson for National Highways stated, “We’ll need to carry out further work on this bridge soon to ensure it remains safe and reliable for the years to come.” Full details regarding the subsequent phases of the work are to be disclosed at a later date.

Motorists are urged to adhere to the designated diversion routes to minimize disruptions. These diversions will guide traffic through the A282 Junction 1a, A206 Crossways Boulevard eastbound, B255 southbound, and A2 westbound, eventually reconnecting with the M25 at Junction 2.

This long-term road closure is a component of a major maintenance initiative expected to last up to six months. The works, overseen by National Highways, focus on crucial repairs to the underlying concrete layer of the roads, necessitating comprehensive closures in both directions at certain times.
