BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Allentown Association is reminding residents about significant road closures this weekend due to the Buffalo Marathon, a major event attracting thousands of runners and spectators.

Festivities begin Saturday, with a 5K run and walk starting at 8 a.m. in downtown Buffalo. The race route will take participants north on Franklin Street through Allentown and south on Delaware Avenue. Officials warn that these streets will be closed to traffic during the event, affecting travel plans.

Sunday will feature the Buffalo Marathon and Half Marathon, commencing at 6:30 a.m. According to the Allentown Association, the marathon course includes Delaware Avenue, Richmond Avenue, and North Street, all of which will be closed for the duration of the races. “Crossing these streets from side streets will be prohibited during much of the race time,” the organization stated.

The marathon is officially sold out, but runners still have the opportunity to participate by fundraising, a detail noted by organizers.

As the weekend unfolds, road shutdowns will commence early Sunday morning, creating further delays from 4 a.m. to 2 p.m. A full list of affected streets and expected reopening times will be shared on official channels.

Approximately 500 volunteers will support events this weekend, helping with logistics and hospitality, according to Kim Fenter, co-race director of the Buffalo Marathon. “Throughout the entire weekend, we have about 1,500 volunteers,” Fenter said.

In addition to the races, an expo at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center will showcase over 50 vendors highlighting fitness products and local goods for runners and attendees.

For the marathon, around 1,500 full marathoners and nearly 4,000 half-marathon runners from all 50 states and 19 countries are slated to participate, featuring a vibrant celebration of community and athleticism.

Runners and visitors can expect favorable weather conditions, with temperatures projected to be between 45 to 50 degrees, ideal for race day.
