Tornado Siren Severe Weather Janesville Wisconsin

JANESVILLE, Wis. — Rock County Emergency Management has updated its criteria for activating outdoor warning sirens. The sirens will now sound if the National Weather Service issues a severe thunderstorm warning labeled as “destructive.” This classification indicates that the storm could produce hail the size of baseballs and/or winds of up to 80 miles per hour.

This policy change follows a recent severe weather event where hail caused damage in southern Wisconsin, particularly in the Evansville area. Residents are advised that if they hear a siren while outdoors, it is crucial to seek shelter immediately.

More thunderstorms are forecasted for Thursday afternoon, adding to concerns about severe weather in the region. Local authorities encourage everyone to stay informed and monitor updates from the National Weather Service regarding potential storm activity.
