ROME, Italy – AS Roma‘s manager Gian Piero Gasperini hinted that some key players could be rested as the team prepares to host Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League on Thursday.

In a press conference on Tuesday, Gasperini provided an update on the fitness of his squad. He confirmed that Angeliño is undergoing tests but expressed hope for his swift return. “There’s a medical report for Angeliño and they’re running tests,” he stated. “We hope to have him back as soon as possible. Apart from him, fingers crossed, everyone is available.”

Despite having a full squad, Gasperini ruled out Leon Bailey starting the match. Bailey made his season debut during the recent match against Inter Milan, but Gasperini mentioned that he needs more time to regain full fitness. “Unfortunately, he’s unlikely to start because he’s been out for a long time,” Gasperini said. “The most important thing is he’s recovered physically.”

Artem Dovbyk is expected to lead Roma’s attack, with Stephan El Shaarawy and Paulo Dybala alongside him. Dybala will return to a traditional role after previously playing as a false 9. “I think he’s a player who’s in good shape, who’s getting better,” noted Gasperini regarding Dybala.

In addition to Angeliño and Bailey, Bryan Cristante and Evan Ndicka may also be rested. Neil El Ayanoui and Manu Koné are likely to form the midfield pairing. When asked about the prospects of Jan Ziolkowski starting in defense, Gasperini remained cautious but acknowledged Ziolkowski’s potential. “He’s shown his qualities in training,” he said.

The match against Viktoria Plzen offers Roma a chance to secure their standing in the Europa League, and Gasperini’s decisions on player rotation will be crucial. “I’ll decide after the final training session whether to use him from the start or from the bench,” he concluded.
