Rosé Releases Emotional Single ‘Number One Girl’ Ahead of Debut Album ‘Rosie’
New Zealand and South Korean singer Rosé has recently released her second single, ‘Number One Girl,’ from her upcoming debut studio album, *Rosie*. The song was released on 22 November 2024 through The Black Label and Atlantic Records. ‘Number One Girl’ is a poignant pop-punk ballad that delves into themes of heartbreak, unrequited love, longing, insecurity, and vulnerability.
The song was written by Rosé herself, along with notable songwriters and producers such as Amy Allen, Bruno Mars, D’Mile, Carter Lang, Dylan Wiggins, and Omer Fedi. The lyrics reflect Rosé’s personal struggles with social media criticism and the pressure to constantly please others. She described the song’s origins as stemming from a night of scrolling through hate comments online, which left her feeling exhausted and insecure.
The music video for ‘Number One Girl,’ which was self-directed by Rosé, features her wandering through various locations in Seoul, including streets, a skate park, and the Jamsu Bridge, all captured in a retro camcorder style. This visual approach complements the song’s emotional and introspective nature.
Rosé’s debut album, *Rosie*, was released on 6 December 2024 and marks her first solo project since her departure from YG Entertainment and Interscope Records in 2023. The album includes the previously released lead single ‘Apt.,’ a collaboration with Bruno Mars that achieved significant commercial success, reaching number one in 19 countries.
The album *Rosie* is described as a ‘burst of honesty’ from the singer, with Rosé co-writing all 12 tracks. This new chapter in her career is highlighted by her recent signing with The Black Label and Atlantic Records, signaling a new direction in her solo music career.
