Roswell Economy Hotel Human Trafficking

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) – The City of Roswell has ordered a hotel to close following a human trafficking investigation that led to multiple arrests. The Economy Hotel on Old Dogwood Road must vacate by 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 10, due to numerous health and safety concerns.

The city’s order details various hazards, including fire alarm deficiencies, blocked exits, lack of fire extinguishers, and malfunctioning emergency lighting. Health inspectors also noted fungal growth within the premises.

Mayor Kurt Wilson emphasized the seriousness of these violations, stating, “The health and safety violations identified by the City of Roswell’s fire marshal and chief building inspector are unacceptable anywhere — and certainly not in the City of Roswell.”

This action comes after six men were arrested on May 2 in connection with the human trafficking bust. City officials noted that the investigation had been ongoing since March.

The city is assisting the hotel’s residents, many of whom used it for short-term accommodations, in finding new housing options.

Hotel owner Ali Jamal expressed his shock over the human trafficking allegations, stating, “We are working closely with law enforcement to support their investigation, and we are launching a comprehensive review of all internal policies and security protocols.” He emphasized the hotel’s commitment to opposing exploitation in all forms.

The city has moved quickly to address the dangerous conditions at the hotel, ensuring the safety and well-being of its residents and visitors.
