Royal Air Maroc to Launch New LA Route in 2026
Casablanca, Morocco — Royal Air Maroc is planning to add two new routes in 2026, including a flight from Casablanca to Los Angeles. This new route represents an expansion into the US market and is anticipated to begin in May, coinciding with the peak travel season.
The airline aims to operate this service three times a week, although the specific schedule remains unconfirmed. As the route has not yet been officially announced, it is not currently available for booking. Any service would likely utilize either a Boeing 787-8 or 787-9, given the airline’s current fleet.
Royal Air Maroc’s new Los Angeles route, measuring 5,205 nautical miles one way, will become its second-longest flight by distance, only surpassed by its service to Beijing Daxing. This route will mark the only direct African passenger service from Los Angeles. Historically, Ethiopian Airlines and EgyptAir offered services to Los Angeles, but these were discontinued in previous years.
The local market for flights between Casablanca and Los Angeles is relatively small, with about 15,000 round-trip passengers annually. Nonetheless, the airline is expected to focus on connecting passengers to other destinations, especially to major African cities such as Cairo and Lagos.
Also in 2026, Royal Air Maroc plans to resume flights to Boston. The airline previously operated three weekly flights to Massachusetts before the pandemic paused services. In 2019, these flights had low occupancy rates of around 50% overall, although summer months did see higher demand.
The US Department of Transportation indicates that Royal Air Maroc’s existing US routes include Miami, New York, and Washington, D.C. With the anticipated addition of Boston and Los Angeles, the airline plans to offer 30 weekly departures to the US, a significant increase compared to previous years.
As Royal Air Maroc seeks regulatory approval from the Department of Transportation, it is expected to announce ticket sales soon after receiving the green light. Flights from Los Angeles are set to bolster the airline’s US services and may coincide with events such as the 2026 FIFA World Cup, providing a unique opportunity for travel.
