Russell Westbrook Expands Culinary Initiative to Denver

DENVER, CO — In a significant expansion of his philanthropic efforts, Denver Nuggets guard Russell Westbrook officially launched his partnership with Little Kitchen Academy (LKA) on February 24, 2025, at the LKA location in Cherry Creek.
The collaboration aims to provide over 10,000 kids from underserved communities with grants, scholarships, and culinary skills training. Westbrook’s Why Not? Foundation initiated the Changing Lives From Scratch Fund (CLFSF), which originated in Los Angeles, and is now active in Denver.
The launch event allowed Westbrook to engage with fans and families. He took photos, signed autographs, and shared insights on how this partnership impacts the community. “It’s very important to me to bring this partnership to Denver,” Westbrook told Denver Nuggets on SI. “It shows the impact we can make by working together.”
Westbrook’s commitment to youth empowerment extends beyond basketball. “The core values of the Why Not? Foundation and LKA align perfectly,” he said. “I’m grateful to give back to kids who don’t have the same opportunities as others.”
The event also supported HopeKids Colorado, raising vital funds for children and teens facing life-threatening medical conditions. LKA, known for its Montessori-inspired culinary education, emphasizes preparing healthy, informed individuals through cooking.
Brian Curin, co-founder and CEO of LKA, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “This event was about giving back and building community with a leading entrepreneur and philanthropist. We’re excited to continue changing lives from scratch right here in Denver.”
During the event, Westbrook emphasized the need for resources that foster growth in children. “For me, it’s about creating opportunities for kids,” he said. “I’m all in.”
With plans to expand the CLFSF globally, Westbrook continues to reflect his roots in Los Angeles while reaching out to new communities. “I always represent where I’m from,” he said, highlighting his passion for enhancing opportunities beyond his hometown.
Westbrook’s competitive nature in sports does not overshadow his philanthropic vision. He clarified his stance on success during the 2023 media day, emphasizing that achievements should not only be measured by championships. “I want to use my platform to impact others,” he stated. “That’s how I measure success.”
