Sacramento International Airport Adds First Nonstop Flight to Alaska
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Sacramento International Airport (SMF) will launch its first-ever nonstop flight to Anchorage, Alaska, this summer, marking a historic expansion for the airport. Alaska Airlines announced the new seasonal route, which will begin operating on June 14, 2025, offering travelers a direct connection to Alaska for the first time.
The new route is part of Alaska Airlines’ broader effort to expand its network, including additional nonstop flights from SMF to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, starting this Saturday. By July, SMF will offer more than 196 daily nonstop flights to 36 destinations across a dozen airline carriers, making it one of the most connected airports in the region.
“Our new routes provide guests with more options than ever to vacation this summer in the great state of Alaska,” said Kirsten Amrine, Vice President of Network Planning and Revenue Management at Alaska Airlines. “The nonstop flights from Sacramento will put travelers right in the heart of Alaska by skipping a layover.”
In addition to the Anchorage route, Alaska Airlines is introducing new seasonal flights from Sacramento to warm-weather destinations like Los Cabos and Puerto Vallarta in Mexico, as well as Orlando and Tucson. These additions aim to cater to both leisure and business travelers seeking convenient connections.
Alaska Airlines’ expanded service also includes resumed daily flights between Fairbanks and Portland, starting May 15, 2025. The airline will offer 15 nonstop destinations from Anchorage to the Lower 48 and Hawaii this summer, the most in its history. Popular routes include Chicago, Denver, Honolulu, Los Angeles, and Seattle.
“Summer is a tremendous time to visit The Great Land of Alaska with our long, warm days, tremendous culture and adventure, and amazing wild Alaska seafood,” said Marilyn Romano, Regional Vice President of Alaska at Alaska Airlines. “For Alaskans, we now have even more nonstop destinations to visit family and friends this summer.”
Travelers can book tickets for these new routes now, with Alaska Airlines offering no change fees, ample legroom, and inflight entertainment options. The airline’s Mileage Plan also provides a fast path to elite status, making it an attractive choice for frequent flyers.
