Sacramento Weather May Forecast

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — As May begins, residents in Northern California brace for potential shifts in weather. Meteorologist Dirk Verdoorn discussed the upcoming heat and possible rain showers on CBS Sacramento.

“We’re looking at some rain possibly this weekend, but overall, the weather has been good recently,” Verdoorn said. He explained that temperatures are expected to rise from the mid-70s at the beginning of May to the low 80s by the end of the month.

The all-time record temperature for May in Sacramento is 107 degrees, recorded on May 28, 1984. The coldest temperature ever recorded in May was 37 degrees, registered on May 3, 1950. Rainfall typically averages around 0.86 inches for the entire month, while the wettest May on record saw 3.42 inches of rain.

Verdoorn noted that the earliest recorded 100-degree day in Sacramento is May 4, a milestone that occurred in 1990. “While we hope to avoid triple-digit temperatures until later in the month, it could happen as soon as next week,” he added.

Weather forecasts suggest a mix of cool conditions in the mornings and warmer afternoons, with temperatures averaging around 50 degrees in the early morning and gradually warming.

The community is preparing for various outdoor activities, including visits to the Sacramento Zoo, as sunny days are expected amidst occasional rain forecasts.

“It’s a great time to enjoy the weather,” Verdoorn said, encouraging residents to take advantage of the pleasant conditions.
