San Antonio Restaurant Shooting Leaves One Dead, Suspect Arrested

SAN ANTONIO – A 20-year-old man was arrested early Sunday after allegedly fatally shooting a coworker at a River Walk restaurant.
The incident occurred around 1 a.m. at Cafe Olé, located in the 500 block of the River Walk. According to a preliminary report from the San Antonio Police Department, the suspect, Talano Garcia, approached his coworker and shot him in the head for unknown reasons.
The victim, identified as 43-year-old David Alvarado by the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office, was pronounced dead at the scene. The medical examiner ruled his death a homicide, attributing it to multiple gunshot wounds.
Following the shooting, police were alerted to a different location by a family member who indicated that a relative might be involved in a shooting near the River Walk. Officers apprehended Garcia without incident shortly thereafter, according to Bexar County jail records.
Garcia has been charged with murder, and his bond is set at $250,000. No other injuries were reported in connection with the shooting.
Both the victim and suspect were employed at Cafe Olé. In a statement released on Sunday, the restaurant emphasized the incident was an isolated occurrence involving an altercation between employees, noting it did not involve customers or other staff members.
“We experienced a recent event involving an altercation between two employees. It occurred in the back of the house and did not involve any customers or other employees. There is an active ongoing police investigation, and we are fully cooperating with authorities,” the statement read. “The safety of our customers and employees is of utmost importance.”
The investigation is ongoing as law enforcement authorities continue to gather details about the event leading up to the shooting.
