San Diego Military Families Donation Drive

SAN DIEGO — In recognition of Military Appreciation Month, the San Diego community is coming together to support military families through a donation drive this May. Sponsored by Navy Federal Credit Union and the nonprofit Support The Enlisted Project (STEP), the 2025 Bags for the Brave initiative encourages local residents to help those who serve.

Starting now and running through the end of May, residents are asked to donate personal care items to assist young military families facing financial challenges. With San Diego being one of the most expensive cities to live in, many active-duty service members find it difficult to make ends meet, and this drive aims to alleviate some of that burden.

Jesse Border, AVP of Branch Operations at Navy Federal Credit Union, expressed gratitude for community involvement, saying, “This is an opportunity for our community to step up and show appreciation to our military families.” Donations can be made at any of the 27 Navy Federal Credit Union branches across the county. Red donation boxes will be available for easy drop-offs.

Acceptable items include diapers, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, laundry detergent pods, toothpaste, toothbrushes, dental floss, disposable razors, shaving cream, bath soap, body lotion, and dish soap. These items are essential for daily living and can often be found in households or easily purchased at local stores.

In addition to collecting items, online monetary donations can also be made directly to Operation Gratitude through their website. For further information on the drive or how to contribute, community members can contact Navy Federal Credit Union at 254-741-5824.

As we honor those who serve, let us stand together and support our military families this month.
