In a move that brings excitement to the University of Arizona‘s football program, San Jose State‘s head coach, Brent Brennan, has been hired as the Wildcats‘ next head football coach. The announcement was made official on Tuesday, signifying a new era for Arizona football.

Brennan, who just completed his seventh season leading San Jose State’s football team, had previously been a finalist for the Arizona job in 2020. At that time, Jedd Fisch was ultimately chosen as the head coach. Now, with Fisch departing for the head coaching position at Washington, Brennan has seized the opportunity to take charge of the Arizona Wildcats.

The Wildcats’ decision to hire Brennan comes after his successful tenure with San Jose State. Over the past four seasons, Brennan guided the Spartans to a 26-19 record, including three appearances in bowl games. His strong leadership and coaching abilities have earned him recognition and respect in the college football community.

Interestingly, this won’t be Brennan’s first experience with the University of Arizona. Back in 2000, he served as a graduate assistant at Arizona during Dick Tomey’s final season. Working under Tomey’s guidance, Brennan gained valuable insights into the Wildcats’ program and the college football scene. Additionally, he worked as an assistant coach under Tomey at San Jose State, further contributing to his familiarity with Arizona’s football culture.

Prior to his successful tenure at San Jose State, Brennan honed his coaching skills at Oregon State. He started as a wide receivers coach under Mike Riley and continued in that role when Gary Andersen took over the program. Notably, Brennan had the privilege of coaching Brandin Cooks, who went on to win the prestigious Biletnikoff Award in 2013. His previous coaching experiences have undoubtedly shaped his coaching philosophy and prepared him for the challenges of leading a major college football program.

Brennan’s own playing career began at UCLA, where he competed as a football player. After his playing days, he embarked on his coaching journey, starting as a high school assistant in Woodside, California. Since then, he has demonstrated his dedication and passion for the game, steadily climbing the coaching ranks and earning the opportunity to lead a program of his own.

The University of Arizona’s decision to hire Brent Brennan signifies their commitment to building a successful football program. With his experience, knowledge, and track record of success, Brennan is poised to make a significant impact on Arizona football. Wildcat fans can now eagerly anticipate a new chapter in the team’s history as they look forward to Brennan’s leadership and guidance.
