Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez Bring ‘Fighting Oligarchy’ Tour to Bakersfield

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders and New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez are set to visit Bakersfield on April 15 as part of their ‘Fighting Oligarchy’ tour. The event will take place at Dignity Health Arena, starting at 1 p.m. with doors opening at 10:30 a.m.
The tour, which aims to address the influence of corporate interests in U.S. politics, has gained considerable attention this spring. Admission to the Bakersfield event is free, but attendees are encouraged to RSVP. In accordance with venue policy, bags, signs, and firearms will not be permitted inside the arena.
Organizer notes indicate that free parking is available on-site, limited to a first-come, first-served basis along N Street between Truxtun Avenue and California Avenue.
Ocasio-Cortez and Sanders have attracted large crowds during previous stops on the tour, as they advocate for policies aimed at reducing inequality and ensuring that the voices of ordinary citizens are heard in Washington. ‘We’re hitting the road to have real discussions across America on how we move forward to take on the oligarchs who have so much power and influence in this country,’ stated Sanders in an announcement regarding the tour.
The duo’s appearance in Bakersfield follows recent events, including a town hall hosted by Representative Ro Khanna last month, highlighting an increased focus on grassroots political engagement in the region. Community members are expected to engage with the legislators on various issues affecting the local and national landscape.
As anticipation builds for the April 15 event, local residents are urged to be aware of the venue policies and arrive early to secure their spots. This event represents an important moment for constituents looking to directly address the challenges posed by corporate lobbying and to understand the progressive agenda advocated by Sanders and Ocasio-Cortez.
