Saudi King Hospitalized Due to Lung Infection: Latest Update on King Salman’s Health
Saudi King Salman is currently under medical care for a lung infection, as announced by the Royal Court. The 88-year-old monarch is receiving treatment with antibiotics as he remains at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah. This update follows an earlier report of a high temperature and joint pain that prompted medical tests and evaluation.
The Royal Court released a statement revealing that the recent tests identified a lung infection in King Salman. The monarch’s medical team has prescribed a comprehensive treatment plan involving antibiotics until the inflammation subsides. King Salman, who ascended the throne in 2015, continues to be a pivotal figure in Saudi Arabia, although day-to-day governance is predominantly overseen by his son, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
The disclosure of King Salman’s health status is a rare public acknowledgment by the Saudi government. This marks the second time within weeks that updates on the king’s health have been officially communicated. In April, the Royal Court confirmed King Salman had undergone routine examinations at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh before being discharged the same day.
King Salman’s health has been a subject of occasional speculation due to his advanced age and previous health episodes. Notable instances include his hospitalization in May 2022 for various health checks and a colonoscopy. Despite such medical incidents, the Royal Court has consistently underscored that the king’s health concerns were promptly addressed with successful outcomes.
Throughout his reign, King Salman has initiated several economic and social reforms critical for Saudi Arabia’s future trajectory. His son and designated successor, Prince Mohammed, has actively led transformative policies aimed at diversifying the kingdom’s economy and modernizing societal norms. Under their leadership, Saudi Arabia is navigating significant transitions while safeguarding traditional values.
