Scott Presler’s Efforts to Mobilize Amish Voters and Boost Republican Registration
Scott Presler, a prominent conservative activist and founder of Early Vote Action, has been actively engaging in efforts to mobilize voters, particularly focusing on the traditionally apolitical Amish communities. Presler’s initiative aims to increase voter registration and encourage early and absentee voting among Republicans nationwide.
In the run-up to the presidential election, Presler has been targeting Amish communities in key states such as Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, and Wisconsin. Historically, the Amish have been reluctant to participate in elections due to their faith-based convictions regarding violence, power, and political engagement. However, Presler’s door-to-door campaigns, offers of rides to polling stations, and assistance with voter registration have been designed to overcome these barriers.
Presler’s approach includes highlighting issues that resonate with the Amish, such as protecting their rights to raw milk production, dairy farming, school choice, and religious freedom. At a recent Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, Presler emphasized these points, referencing the case of Amos Miller, a dairy farmer who was blocked from selling raw dairy products by the state Department of Agriculture.
The Amish population, though small, can have a significant impact on election outcomes. For instance, in the 2020 election, Trump lost Pennsylvania by 80,555 votes, where the estimated Amish population is over 92,000. Presler’s efforts to encourage mail-in voting, which may ease the travel demands and moral ambiguities associated with voting for the Amish, could potentially sway these numbers.
Additionally, Presler has celebrated recent successes in voter registration, noting that Bucks County in Pennsylvania has seen a significant increase in registered Republicans, with nearly 4,000 more registered this year compared to previous years).
